Frequently Asked Questions

I am not a musician and/or a therapist. Can I still benefit from your training?

Yes! We are creating a new way for Alzheimer’s patients experience the world. To learn our methods, you must only be interested in and/or open to experiencing the healing power of music and experimenting with how to incorporate this experience into your interaction with Alzheimer’s patients. It is helpful if you are comfortable using your voice, but there are many ways we can help you create and develop a practice that supports and improves Alzheimer’s patients’ lives.

I have a loved one who has Alzheimer's and I'd like to learn some ways I can help him/her. Is this training the right place for me?

Yes. Village Song is a method that was developed after working with thousands of Alzheimer’s patients. The method is specifically designed to support and bring joy and ease to Alzheimer’s patients through the healing power of music. You will learn how to use different musical healing modalities and you can use this information and experience in many settings — working with large groups, small groups, individuals and loved ones.

Is it possible to only take one or two of the weekend trainings? If I miss some of the trainings, will I still receive the certification?

We do not offer individual registration for specific weekends. The Village Song training is structured in such a way that each weekend focuses on a different aspect of the whole method and each weekend builds on the weekend before. In order to preserve the integrity of the method and to ensure that students learn and experience the entire curriculum, we ask that you only register if you are able to commit to attending the whole training. To receive Village Song certification, participants must attend at least six of the seven weekends.

Is the Village Song certification recognized by Alzheimer and/or other elder care facilities?

The Village Song method is currently being used in more than 25 facilities in the Bay Area with more demand for it each year. Being a Village Song certified practitioner will be recognized by many Bay Area facilities, and eventually with other areas as well. We are a new movement with the mission of changing Alzheimer’s patients’ lives by bringing music to a very intense, powerful, and important stage of life. Join us!

I am very interested in this work, but I can't afford the training. Do you have any sort of scholarship or work trade options available?
